EBOV in West Africa - epidemiological summary

This is an attempt to summarize and visualize the cumulative case data published by the WHO's Global Alert bulletins and situation reports:

http://www.who.int/csr/disease/ebola/situation-reports/en/

The data is sketchy and difficult to parse and should be used for illustrative purposes only. Cumulative case numbers were transcribed from WHO reports. Both laboratory confirmed, likely and suspected cases are included. Where the cumulative counts have dropped (due to reclassification of cases as negative), these cases are retrospectively removed from earlier cumulative numbers. The case counts by time are then given by the difference in subsequent cumulative counts.

Update 2014-10-31: There has been a big jump in the number of cases reported in the latest WHO situation report. This may represent the bulk-reporting of previously unrecorded cases rather than an upswing in transmission.
